Where have I been?????

Well, it has been many months now since my last posting. I may not have been bloggin' about myself, BUT I have been keepin' up with all of y'all. The past few months have been sooo busy for me. If you do not know it or not, I got pink-slipped last year for the education profession. I knew that my current job was just for one-year, BUT there is ALWAYS room for wishful thinkin'....RIGHT? I have been subbing this school year. Back in early October, I did a short leave in 2nd grade for a teacher at Rylee's school then back to regular subbing. In early Novemeber, I started a leave that lasted until December 21st. It was in Kindergarten. It was kicking my tail at first, but then I got the hang of it and totally LOVED IT!!!! It was at Rylee's school too. It is so nice to work at your child's school because you don't have to rely on anyone else to take or pick up your kids from school. Sometimes, it was a pain when I wanted to stay late after school. Of course, they were ready to come home! :)
The holidays were busy of course. I did not put up all 14 of my Christmas trees....only 11. Which made it alot easier when it came time to take everything down! About 2 wks before Christmas, Taulbe surprised me with a house-puppy!!!! NEVER in my WILDEST dreams would I think he would bring home a house-dog!!! He has ALWAYS been against it! Her name is Rosey Belle. She is a YorkiePoo. Now you know why I have been sooo busy......house training a puppy!

Auburn Wreath

Well, all you AU fans will appreciate this posting and all you thrifty/crafty ones will appreciate it too. I noticed this mesh wreathes on an Esty website going for about 75 bucks. Yeah, I wanted one but not for that price......thought to myself.......try makin' one!

Bought some wooden letters at Michael's for about 1.50 ea.....wanted bigger ones but oh well! Bought some paint. Already had the circle foam paint brush thingy.....got busy paintin'.

Bough the wide ribbon mesh last year during an after-Christmas sale. That saved me some $$$$! Used pipe-cleaners to attach the ribbon to wreath. As you can see, I used a grapevine wreath. Got it 1/2 price at Hobby Lobby....that saved me some $$$$!

Hung by front door so EVERYONE can see my talent...hehe and say WAR EAGLE!

Pretty nifty for about 20 bucks compared to 75 bucks!

Botanical Gardens

Rylee's class went on a field trip to the local Botanical Gardens. Weather was perfect....little chilly in the morning, but it ended up being just right!

Halloween Fun 2011

We started our Halloween festivities by having a school sponsored Fall Festival. The next day was Rylee's Halloween party at school. Had lots of yummy treats for the kiddos to eat, and they were allowed to wear their costumes to school on Friday. Sunday, we gathered our pumpkins and our Jack-o-Lantern carvin' tools and got to work!

We always get the boys a little something for each holiday......nothing too big. Rylee got the new Captain America DVD and the Thor DVD. Caleb got a Auburn banner that shows the different AU symbols throughout the years. Note to self~gotta hang that thang today!!!!

Where's the Zombie Skeleton???Kinda blends in the porch display, huh? Better not kill my scarecrow....he's part of the family! Been around since 1997!

Took Rylee 4-EVER to decide on a costume this year.....he is usually a superhero.....my baby is growing up! From superheroes to Zombie Skeleton! YIKES!!!

Talk about growing up, Caleb didn't even go Trick-or-Treating this year~ He stayed at home until it was time to hit the family homes.

Havin' a simple brother-to-brother or should I say Zombie-to-brother disagreement! hehe

Pumpkins, Bottles & Leaves equal a Tabletop Tuesday

I am joining Marty from A Stroll Thru Life for TableTop Tuesday. This is the area above my stove/oven in the kitchen. After we purchased our home in 2000, we removed the cabinet doors from this area and made a display area. Gotta have places to sit "stuff" right??? I have been collecting Longaberger Baskets for about 20 years. I have not purchased one in several years, but I still decorate with them. Did not realize how "off-centered/unbalanced" or how yucky this basket arrangement was until I saw it in a photo! Well, that's an easy fix! Anyways, the main focus is on the top shelf......

The heavy bronze plate was a steal at a local antique store for 1 buck! Just perfect for fall decor!

All of the old medicine bottles were found in our backyard while digging around. Makes you wonder what went on back there years ago.......Many years ago, there was an old house here before ours was built. Don't remember it but that is what we were told. I have lived in this area all of my life!

Fall means Apple Pickin' Time......

The other Sunday, we made to LONG journey to our local orchard that is about 15 mins away from our house. The orchard has a variety of fruits according to the season. Right now, they have an assortment of apples, sweet taters, and pumpkins. All of the products have been picked for you.....all you do is grab what ya want! We choose an assortment of Granny Smith, Yellow delicious, and Rome Apples (already had some Gala Apples). Also, you can find apples fixed different ways: dried apples, carmel apples, YumMy apple cider, & YuMmY frozen apple cider slushie. A gallon of apple cider doesn't last but a few days in the Barnett house, and of course we each had a frozen slushie for the ride home!~

Mountain Wood-land Fall Tablescape

I am joining Susan from BNOTP for Tablescape Thursday! Fall is in the air....leaves are beginning to change.....football season is in FULL swing.....cooler nights and shorter days! Fall decor is all over BLoGLaNd and in our dining room too! Sit down and stay away while we tour my fall tablescape!

China was a bargain find at a local antique store many years ago. Bought an entire box of these beauties with all kinds of accessories for 65 bucks! I have them displayed throughout my home plus I am able to use them in tablescapes! The pattern is Nasco Mountain Wood-land. The color scheme is perfect for fall!

I created the centerpiece a few years ago....I cut the top off of a pumpkin from Hobby Lobby, and I inserted some faux berries and wheat then tied some raffia for a bow.

Love turning pumpkins in different directions to add a little something....something to the arrangement....I think it adds alot of interest!

Decorating with Transferware is an obession and a hobby. The trill of the hunt for the perfect piece or trying to complete a tablesetting. Whatever the case my be.....collecting dishes has been a long time obession for me! I am going to share some wall vignettes that are displayed throughout our home. Red, blue, brown, polychrome.....who cares I love it ALL! The dishes were discovered at local antique stores, flea markets, eBay, TJMaxx and Marshalls.

Brown polychrome hanging in the kitchenette. Purchased an entire set of these about 8 place setting (missing a few pieces here and there), platter, salt & pepper shakers, oil & vinegar bottles, butter dish, cream & sugar bowls, and a ginger jar at a local antique store for 65.00! Thats right......the trill of a great bargain!

This is one of my fav wall vignettes. Once again, great finds from Hobby Lobby, flea markets, TJMaxx and Marshalls.

My fav wall vignette in the dining room. I purchased this piece of furniture just for the Pink Tower Tureen. I knew exactly what I wanted to create when purchased the chest and tureen. Notice the wall hanging.....it has my china in it! This was a wedding gift from hubby's grandparents. The lamp was my MeMaw's. I ALWAYS wanted this lamp. It is one of my prized possessions.

The tiniest in FLIGHT

When Springtime approaches, it is time to clean up the hummingbird feeder and mix up some sugar water for the little fellas. I have tried taking pictures of the "hummers" before, BUT now that I have a new camera...let the snappin' begin! We have three hummers that stop by for a drink all season long. Yesterday, I was on the porch petting Callie the cat and a hummer flew right by my head.....I literally had to duck! I love watching them zoom right on by.....Sadly, in a few days/weeks they will migrate South for the winter. We will be waiting on them next Spring!

A few hummingbird facts:

Among the smallest of all birds....3-5 ins. long

Only bird that can fly backwards

Can hover in mid-air

Has the highest metabolism of all animals

Heart rate as high as 1,260 beats a minute

Recipe for hummingbird food: 1 part sugar to 4 parts water.....boil and then cool

I have read that it is not necessary to add food coloring to water.

Alittle fall decor......

Well, everywhere you look.......you see a little bit of Fall! Whether you have started decorating you home or your front porch.....seeing more footballs being tossed about.....started changing out your closets (putting away anything springy or summery), fresh apples being sold at farmer's markets.....these are all signs that Fall is on its way! I have decorated the inside of our home, but I have not purchased my fall decor for the front porch yet....things like bales of straw and pumpkins.
I am sharing with you a 13 pane china cabinet in my dining room. I change out this area with the changing of holidays. The harvest plate was a bargain find a couple of years ago at Hobby Lobby during their 60% sale. The apothecary jar was a bday gift from my moma about 3 years ago. Nothing says fall to me than some apples (fake or real). The staffordshire dogs were a bday gift from my mother-in-law probably 5 years ago...don't just love these pups...woof woof! They are protecting some vintage church books and another vintage book (cant remember what kind and I am upstairs! :)

Fall is in the kitchen......All of these items have been collected over the years, and they were purchased at bargain prices from Hobby Lobby! LOVE checking out the seasonal isle for additional markdowns....don't you? The bronze plate was a find at a local antique store for 1 buck!

Of course, topping off this vignette are my precious boys! Boy, have they grown! The antique frame was a steal for 25 bucks!

WE WILL NEVER FORGET...9-11-11

Ten years ago......Where were you? What were you doing?

Who were you with? These are all questions that we are able

to answer without hesitation. Sometimes, we have a

difficult time remembering what we had for lunch, but

when asked a question about 9-11-2001.....We all

have a clear, vivid memory!

I was on my way to the doctor to schedule surgery, BUT

no surgery for me because I discovered I was pregnant with our

second son!

I remember crying the entire 40 minute trip to the doctor.....

all sorts of emotions soaring through my body and mind.

Scared for our Country......sadden for the people that had lost loved ones.....

scared for our future.....who knew what could or would happen next!

As always.....we pulled together. Flags were flying proudly on front porches....yellow ribbons tied

around trees, messages to our troops and their family were posted

on every sign available! Let us not forget.....let us not put our guard down....always

stand strong and united ONE COUNTRY UNDER GOD!!!!!

Down by the Creek.....

One Monday afternoon, we stopped by a creek that I have not been at since I was a teenager! It has changed alittle bit because the waterfall use to flow all the way across the creek. It has always been a beautiful site to see. Many, many years ago, there was an old Mill beside the creek. The rock wall is still standing along the creek bed. (Wish the rock wall was at my house....don't you just LOVE rock walls????) Actually, I made two trips to this creek in one day. First trip, the boys were with me. They waded in the calmer end of the creek. First two photos are from the day trip.

My sister-in-law Rachael and I wanted to practice using our cameras. So off we went.....made a few stops here and there snappin' away! I suggested coming to the creek. The sun was beginning to set.....which meant jaw-dropping photos! We were having so much fun snappin' away! Love the reflection of the sunset on the water!

Got a new toy...Nikon D3100

For my bday, I got a much needed new toy....a Nikon D3100 camera! I am so excited to have what I call a super- duper camera! I have been wanting one of these babies for a while now! Let me introduce you to the BEST doggie EVER......Pepper! Sportin' his summer shave!!! We have had Pepper about 7 years. Callie, the cat in previous post, strayed into our yard in November 7 years ago (almost 8 now), and Pepper joined our during the springtime. My husband read about Pepper in the newspaper...he was 4-sale...full-blooded Australian Shepherd. Taulbe brought him home for the weekend for a "trial" period. Well, he has been here ever since! The previous owners gave him to us instead of charging the 50 bucks. Pepper had been kicked by a horse in left eye which caused him to be blind in that eye. We loved him ....flaws and all! He has been a major part of our lives ever since. The kids and I adore Pepper. He LOVES to be petted and follow us around (especially me). If I petting Callie, Pepper tries to get in between me and the cat. He wants and needs all the attention! We have enough love for both!!!

Well, after having a John Deere border up for about 9 years.....I guess it is time to tear it down and bring out the paint brushes. Well, pay someone to do all of that! I finally "bite the bullet" and redid Caleb's bedroom after him begging and begging like 4-ever! Had to have some paint color that would blend in with the custom-made curtains cause I WAS NOT REPLACING those BABIES!!!! Paint color decision making was an easy task.....Drum roll please......Sherwin Williams Dormer Brown.

Some New Bedroom Pretties......

I am joining Marty from A Stroll Thru Life for Tabletop Tuesday. It has been awhile since I have partied with Marty, cause I have not changed anything around this house except for seasonal decor until now!

Found the pottery beauties at Burk's Outlet. If you have one in your area, it is worth the stop. They carry alittle bit of EVERYTHING....clothes and homegood items! The jar thingy was $9.99 and the candle pillar holder was $3.99. I thought they were worth coming home with me! I knew exactly where their home would be in my home! The candle was a STEAL at Hobby Lobby several months ago. Got that beauty for around 2 bucks off their clearance isle! Oh, yes! I grabbed that baby quickly!!! Perfect match for each other...don't ya think? All of the other accessories I have had for awhile. Either purchased at Hobby Lobby or a local antique store.

Displaying MeMaw's Quilts

These are two of my MeMaw's handmade quilts. These are heirlooms that will be passed down to my boys one day. I have a cedar chest full of her quilts. These were once displays on my cherry quilt rack, BUT a few months during a housecleaning accident.....I broke one of the legs off my beloved quilt rack! boo hoo....... So today, I had a BraInStorm! I love being surrounded by mentos that once belonged to loved ones. I placed two of her quilts on the rocker. The rocker was handmade by my husband great- great-uncle many many years ago. I have had it for about 15 years. The Ragdy Ann doll was mine as a child. Bless her heart....I thought she needed some make-up I guess, so I colored her with crayons! The handmade bonnet is MeMaw too. She NEVER worked outside in the yard/garden unless she had on a long sleeve shirt and a bonnet. The quilt in the seat of the rocker is the Double Wedding Ring pattern. This quilt is the first quilt she ever worked on in the late 1930's. I think she said 1937. She and my great-grandmother pieced this quilt. I do not know the other pattern. As a wedding present 15 years ago, she pieced us the Love Knot patterned quilt. We have slept under this quilt ever since. My MeMaw passed away in April 2010. I wish more than anything that she had taught me how to quilt. I have her quilting patterns BUT not her skills!

Girl's Night

That time again.....watch out world here we come! GiRlS GoNe WiLD NiTe!!! Started the evening at a local steakhouse....lick your lips good! Quick Wal-Mart run then off to the movie. Couldn't decide on a movie because EVERY movie that someone mentioned, someone had already seen it. So off to the dollar movies to see PROM. Interesting night might I say inside the theater. Rowdy teenagers TRIED to ruin our night but oh no they didn't! They did not know who they were dealing with....Tonya, Charlotte, Debbie, and April that is! Finally, they left....we gave them a round of applause as they walked out! Made a 11:00 run to Krispy Kreme another yum yum! Thanks girls for another night of fun and laughter!

Aunt Di is the BIG 50!~

On May 14, 2011, we celebrated our Aunt Di's 50th birthday. She is my mother-in-law's sister. She was surrounded by family and friends. A good-time was had by all! Aunt Di has been wonderful to my boys. She and I worked together for about four years at a local toy store, and we became good friends as well as closer relatives. She spoiled my boys with love and affection! She has always been there when ever I have needed her. My boys love to spend the night at Aunt Di's! What a beautiful, breath-taking site.....a field of crimson clover (or at least that is what my moma calls it). This field is located between some of my in-laws homes. The rocket in the background was placed in this special spot when I was just a small child. I can remember them moving it from one location to another because we rode by to see it.

Better late than never is what I always say! I know a little late for sharing my Easter Tablescape. I have had my table decorated for over a month, but getting the photos uploaded onto computer and then posted is another story! I will keep it short like a fluffy bunny tail!

Centerpiece is nestled on top of a pewter cake plate placed in the center of a floral wreath. The dried hydrangea have been in several TT. I used two different tablecloths....one floral and then burlap.

The light got a little Easter bling bling!

Ol' faithful paper plates from Hobby Lobby, Gibson cup and saucer. The green transferware was purchased at an antique store. Glass tumbler is from Target.

This is what I like to do on a Sunday afternoon....take a peaceful nap!

Petter invited a few of his friends over for a little gathering! The more the merrier!

Science Fair Poster

Rylee's school had their first Science Fair since the late 90's. It was a mandatory event for all grades K-5. We started with a blank outline of the state of Alabama because the theme was Outdoor Alabama. We decided on "Birds of Alabama". Then my "teacher-mode" took over. It was very hard for me not to do the ENTIRE poster! :) I outlined the state with tiny twigs then we glued bird seed inside. We got a poster from the store Wild Birds Unlimited. They gave us a poster and some other materials. The poster was very useful. Hot glued some native bird pictures onto the poster. Told Rylee what to write and .......Drum ROLL......finished product!

He did not win....don't know why.....BUT I thought it turned out very well, and we were very creative. Great minds think a like!

Celebrating Gran's B-day

Febrauary 25 was my moma's birthday. She would kill me if I posted her age. I had to work that day, so I had to cook something simple. I cooked beef stew, Mexican cornbread, and baked a "frozen" apple pie. I gave her a Pandora charm for her bracelet and something else that has not arrived yet. Happy Birthday!

Who says you need a cake for candles? A pie works just fine, BUT let it cool before inseting candles....they will melt! hehe

Girl's Night

Watch out.....the girls are out and running loose...... April, Debbie, Me, and Charlotte! We had our annual "Girl's Night". Notice the word annual.....need to make it more often!!! We had supper at Logan's. Had to wait forever for our meal which in means.....FREE FOOD! Yeap, we did not have to pay for supper which meant more $$$$$ for shopping! :) After supper, we had about an hour to kill before the late show at the movies. We headed to Berk's Outlet for a little looking and a little spending! Mostly talking! We always pick up right when we left off. Been friends since grade school! We have the best time when we are together! We saw the movie "The Roommate". Creepy....makes you NOT want to send your child off to college! Trust me!

Back in January, we hosted a baby shower for our cousin Kathryn. Well, today she welcomed her precious baby boy, Langdon Thomas into our loving family. He is a whopping 10.4 and 21 inches. She had to have a c-section due to his size. Everyone is doing fine. Unfortunately, I did not get to join the birthday party because I am home sick. Usually, when a baby is welcomed into our family......the whole family is there......cousins and all! I wish the three of you a lifetime full of love, joy, and happiness. Peabody Hotel Memphis

Back in December 2010, we visited the Peabody Hotel in Memphis. What trip to Memphis is complete without witnessing the world famous Peabody Ducks and Hotel. Not only is the hotel famous for the ducks, BUT for the Lansky Brother's Clothier to the King. Elvis Presley that is......Any Elvis fan HAS to walk thru this store. Probably will not purchase anything, BUT you hafta walk thru!!!!

Our visit to Graceland

The week after Christmas, my moma, Taulbe's granny, and I made a journey to Memphis, TN to visit the home of The King, Elvis Presley. This was my fourth visit to Graceland, and I am sure it will NOT be my last. I have never been while it was decorated for Christmas, so it was a real treat for us to see all the blue christmas lights. It rained the entire time while we were out and about at Graceland, but rain cannot or will not stop an Elvis fan!!!! The year 2010 marked the 75th birthday of Elvis. Glad we were able to be a part of the grand celebration.

Once you step inside, you are taken back into another time and place. Elvis is speaking and singing while you are on a self-guided tour. Talk about tears and goosebumps!!!! You are walking where he once place his footprints.

We have not had this much snow in over a decade according to the local news today. I measured 8 inches....have a picture to prove it BUT for some reason Blogger will not let me upload any more photos. I still have several to share of the snow!

Tablescape Thursday~Christmas 2010

I am joining Susan from Between Naps on the Porch for Tablescape Thursday. I have not participated in TT in many months. I was not planning on this week either, BUT I had taken a couple of pictures of my dining room table. So, here they are..... You have seen these Christmas plates before from last year. I used a piece of burlap as my layering piece, and I placed my sleigh and reindeers on top. I made the sleigh arrangement a few years ago.

The reindeer were purchased a The Dollar Store a few years ago. I placed a few evergreen picks, peppermint ornament balls and other ornaments throughout the arrangement.

Where in the world have I been the past 4 months or so.......WORKING!!! I have joined the "real world", and I got a teaching job after being home for 12 wonderful years! I have been sooo busy that blogging has been put on the back burner for a while. I still blog surf and check out what you guys are up too....BUT I usually don't leave a comment. Sorry! I am teaching 1st grade at a wonderful little school about 15 minutes from home. It has been hard not being at my son's school, but we are slowly but surely adjusting. :) I was hired two days BEFORE school started, so I had a lot of work to do getting my classroom ready. My best friend from grade school has been a blessing. She has helped me so much and has given me all of her teaching stuff (she is a librarian now).

I hope all of you had a wonderful Thanksgiving Holiday. I sure did. Out of school for a nice little break.....I am busy cleaning and decorating for Christmas. I will try to post more often. I miss keeping in touch with all of y'all.

Flowering Beauties

You will notice that Impatiens are my FAV flower. My mother calls them Everbloomers.

This little arrangement is in the inset of the front of the house......one day there will be a FLOWING WATER FOUNTAIN!!! I have been waiting 3 years on that fountain....it will HAPPEN!!!

These were freebies......they volunteered along the back porch shrub bed. Those are the kind of flowers I like....freebies.

I have had this beauty for 3 years. During the winter, she lives in the garage. I try to keep as many of my plants and flowers for years!

Metamorphosis Monday~ A new vignette in the master bedroom

I am joining Susan from Between Naps on the Porch for Metamorphosis Monday, Rhonda from Southern Hospitality for Thrifty Treasures and Marty from A Stroll Thru Life for TableTop Tuesday. I have NEVER taken part in sooo many parties at one time! WOW!!! I purchased a few items here and there, and of course they needed a new home. The thrifty items were purchased at a local antique store, but I thought they were good buys. Of course, I shopped around the house and inside the "secret stash closet". Well, I finally decided where these items would be placed for the time being and got busy.....busy dusting, rearranging, and snapping photos. I liked the "before" photo, BUT more is ALWAYS better RIGHT????

BEFORE.......like I mentioned before.....nothing wrong with this vignette.....BUT a little change NEVER hurts!!! My Staffordshire doggies are little sad because they have not found the "just right" spot yet! They are howling at the moon and whining a little. Bless their hearts!

The wall hanging.....I have had this for years. I purchased this at a local antique store for around 20 bucks. The print is nothing special as far as canvas for anything. I was paying mostly for the frame. I LOVE unique frames, but the print was a little added bonus!

The bell jar is a new find that I grab right up at a local antique store for 3 bucks. I knew right then......cloche decorating.......another accessory for Marty's Cloche Parties. Yippee!!!! The pretty shell inside is a recent find a wonderful store that I cannot remember the name. It was a tablescaper's dream!!!!! I wanted the shell for the coloration, so my moma bought it for me. I WAS NOT going to pay 10 bucks for that thing, so she did!!! Nice to have momas around!!!! :)

This little saucer was a find a couple of weeks ago at a local antique store for $1.50. I could pass it up because of the color scheme....just what I needed for my bedroom. ......browns and turquoise

I have had this "eye candy" for several years. Until about 3 years ago (when we change the color scheme of the master bedroom), it waited patiently in the secret stash closet. (You have one of the those places right?) This was a STEAL at Hobby Lobby for between 5-7.00 bucks on clearance. I course it went right into my buggy without thinking twice!!!

Varying heights is what books are for right????? The two bottom books belonged to my MeMaw and Granddaddy Skeets. The top two books are two old New Testament Bibles from my home church. Look....I told you that I even dusted for you! See the reflection of the books.....furniture shining like a new diamond! :)

What do you do with your fresh tomatoes? Canned them for soups and other recipes, make

salsa, slice for tomato sandwiches, or etc........ I am not a tomato eater. I raise them for my husband, family, friends, and neighbors. This year, I am having a slight problem with them rotting on the bottom. Any suggestions? I am throwing away and many as I am keeping!

Table Top Tuesday~ Tea Carts are NOT just for Tea!!!

I am joining Marty from A Stroll Thru Life for Table Top Tuesday. A special day where we can show off our tabletops, bookcases, or whatever else we would like to show off. This little beauty is my tea cart that accompanies my dining room suit. It is a reproduction cherry piece made in Kentucky. I LOVE my dining room suit, and my tea cart is NO exception.

I love displaying my favorite things in grouping. Everything is special to me because someone gave it to me, or I use money from someone to purchase it. My granddaddy gave me the money to purchase my dining room suite about 10 years ago.

I "heart" things with the lady awaiting on them (I do not know what you call this pattern, so this is my name for it.) I think it is sooo romantic and Victorian looking...don't you?

The tea set is a gift from MIL before she was my MIL one year for Christmas. Yes, I broke the lid off the tea pot...sob sob! Other pieces are from eBay, Hobby Lobby, or local antique stores.

The ceramic pitcher is from Hobby Lobby and a 30th bday gift from MIL. Yes, she has good taste.

Notice the lady inwaiting bling bling.....necklace is on the tea pot, earrings are on the creamer and sugar bowl.

Cherub letters spell MOM....aaahhh how sweet they are.

The tea cart has leaves on both sides. I have never used the table, but for only displaying purposes.

The Masked Bandits

We had just left our house one day to find these cutie pies in the road. OF COURSE, I had a FIT because THESE little baby masked bandits were in the ROAD with no moma in site. Luckily, I had my trusty camera with me. I snapped a couple of pictures from the van, and then I got out. I KNOW not to TOUCH baby raccoons, BUT I HAD to scoot them out of the road. About a week before, there had been a dead raccoon in the road just a few feet from where I saw the babies. Pretty sure that was their moma. Bless their heart.....I have not seen them since, so hopefully they are safe in our woods.

The Dog Days of Summer......

Meet Pepper, our Australian Shepherd, aka wooly bully. He is our family dog that is LOVED to pieces to itty bitty pieces. Bless his heart ....he burns UP in the summer heat (notice the ice cubes?). He gets a "summer shave" every year to help keep him a little cooler. We love taking him to the beauty shop because he smells sooo good when we pick him up.

This is a special treat for Pepper....getting to ride in the air conditioned van. Remember, he is nice and clean!!!

Here he is sportin' his new hairdo and accessory. He is blind in one eye because he was kicked by a horse (at least that is what his previous owners told us). He was given to us about 5 years ago.

A Raftin' We WILL Go.....

The "Dare Devil Adventurous" side of me went white water rafting about a month ago. TOTALLY LOVED IT and would most definitely do it again!!!! I went with Abby (brother-in-law's girlfriend) and some of her co-workers. She works at a dentist office. We were all smiles while battling the white capped rapids! ( I am the second one on the left side when looking at the picture....actually the right side of the boat when sitting in it )

Yes, we had some brushes with death....well, kinda! Felt like it anyways....the rush was amazing, but the water was a freezing 60 degrees. We were screamin' and laughin' for 10 miles.

I was game for anything the river could dish-out......washing machine where you make 360 degrees turn arounds or the side of river where it was a little bit more rapid. I know my fellow raft mates wished that I would SHUT UP!!!!

Yes, we did get to swim in the freezing cold water....not by choice! I had the privilege of swimming with rocks at one moment. Another raft ran into ours which caused us to "taco". In other words, the raft folded up, and I was thrown out. The water was very shallow, BUT the current was super-duper fast and strong. People were telling me to stand up....well, easier said than done. I was trying to stop by using my hands, but I jammed my index finger on my right hand and bent back several fingernails in the process. Finally, I was carried to another raft. They TRIED to get me into their raft, BUT it started moving. During this, they had aholt of my life jacket and was scrapping my back across the rocks. Lucky me! Yes lucky me!! I could have been really hurt, but I was not. Scrapped my knee, elbow, and shoulder.......rescued finally. Joined my fellow raft mates and finished the journey. We had an AWESOME guide.....she totally rocked and was great to be around. They fed us a yummy lunch too. I was NOT ready for this adventure to end. Great time was had by all.....

Baby Box Turtles.....in about 3 months! Caleb found Scrappy (this is what we named this turtle because she has a scrapped place on her shell) in our backyard. Of course, he picked her up and brought her closer to the house so we could all enjoy her for awhile. Her back end was all dirty....little did WE KNOW she was DIGGING a hole for her NEST to LAY EGGS!!!! About an hour had past, Rylee comes yelling in the house. "Moma, that turtle has laid eggs!" Of course, I thought NO WAY!!! Well, there laid 3 white eggs on our sidewalk. It totally amazes me that these eggs came from this turtle!

A little scale comparison.....

What is a person to do with 3 turtle eggs? I looked on the Internet first. Then, I called our vet, but they did not know what to do. They gave me a phone number to our local wildlife management. Well, of course no one answered the phone and I left a voice mail. No one EVER returned my call either....thanks a lot! So, what is a concerned animal lover and mom to do???Call the local zoo of course. We had just been at this zoo the day before (takes about 2 hrs. to get there). They knew just what to do! Mark the eggs with a pencil, so you will know the top of the egg! DO NOT turn upside down and shake the eggs!!!!

Dig a hole 6 inches deep in a shaded and well-drained area. I chose my shrub bed beside the back porch. Cover the hole and wait patiently for 3 months. The lady said they probably will not make it because the eggs were in the HOT sun too long....but wishful thinking is what I say!!!! We (strike that) I said a few words of encouragement before I covered the eggs. Only time will tell if they make it or not. I did my part! :)

Scrappy is on the left. The night before, we found the other box turtle in our driveway. He hung around for about 2 days. The moma, aka Scrappy, got the heck out of Dodge!!! I am always helping out turtle when I can....box turtles that is. If I see one in the road, I stop and move them to safety. Sometimes, we bring them home for awhile. Back in May, we had Frisky in the house for awhile. He was NOT bashful at all. We share this Earth with all of God's creatures. I teach my boys to respect them and to be kind to them. Thank goodness, they take after me and share my lovin' for animals!!!

Thrifty Finds and alittle BLING~ Tablescape Thursday

I am joining the hostess with the mostess, Susan from Between Naps on the Porch, for Tablescape Thursday. Be sure to check out all the other stunning creations from the talented tablescapers. We love playing with our dishes.

I am sooo lovin this centerpiece, and I have been enjoying it for about 2 months now. Pewter cake plate was a Christmas gift 2 years ago. It is hand-blown Italian glass with pewter accents. Good thing it was a gift because it is too rich for my blood. :) Layered it with glass dish from thrifty finds posting, covered candy dish from wedding shower, and small cloche from Rachael as a thank you gift. Added a little BLING BLING by dangling sliver Christmas garland and pearl strands.

Made a little nest from pearls from my little feathered friend....who could ask for a better nest than one made from pearls!!!

I adore my thrifty find yellow crocheted napkins. So springy....fresh.....and inviting! Don't you agree? Tablerunner was made from my curtain material. Mr. Hubby gave me the runner as a Valentine gift many years ago.

Green juice glass was a great find from Target last Spring. Love the vintage look! Totally plastic, but I don't care one bit. It is all about the beauty.

Another angle of the centerpiece. Floral wreath was a thrifty find this past Spring from Wal-Mart....only $3.50.....what a steal! The orante candlestick is another piece from my MeMaw Smith's crystal collection. Do you know the pattern? We always thought is was Rose Point, but I am not sure.

Even the salt shaker got a little BLING BLING....had an extra pearl napkin ring, so I thought...why not! I only have three of the napkin rings...boo hoo!

Critters in the house!!!

I rescued this little fellow from being road-kill. He was crossing the road that we live on, and I always try to help turtles cross the road. During this time, I was teaching 4th grade for a teacher on a medical leave. I brought the turtle to school for show & tell because he WAS NOT bashful at all. He got to visit a lot of classroom that day. The kiddos really enjoyed meeting "Friskie".

One Saturday afternoon, my boys stayed with their grandmoma for a while. While they were playing outside, you know boys will be boys, they captured some baby bunnies. Well, their granddaddy has a garden and a huge corn crop so he was going to KILL these little cuties. NOT ON MY WATCH!!! I brought them home with us. I researched them on the Internet and decided that we need to take them back to their nest. Well, we snuck them back to grandmoma's house. They think they are at our house in our woods somewhere.

My friend, Charlotte, hatches baby chicks every year at her school where she is the librarian. She brought these little cuties to visit us on their way home. They were sooo soft! She donated them to a local feed and seed store where they were to be sold.

One Friday afternoon, Rylee comes screaming into the living room....."There is a lizard in the kitchen!!!!" I totally freak out of course! Do not like UNWANTED or UNINVITED critters in MY HOUSE!!!!! I put folded masking tape all around the frig. It caught it once, but I freaked out again! This caused the lizard to escape and go back under the frig. Off to the Dollar Store we go to purchase some glue boards. I placed glue boards ALL AROUND THE FRIG!!!!. Two days had passed....still no lizard! Sunday afternoon, I go into the dining room. Guess who in in the dining room.....Yeap you guess it! Mr. Creepy Crawly Slimy Lizard!!!! He has good taste because he goes into hiding under my grandfather clock. Well, we move the glue boards to around the clock. Wait patiently.....got him. Mr. Hubby tried to release him, but he kept resticking himself to the glue board and pulling his skin off. So, RIP Mr. Creepy Crawly Slimy Lizard. Tell your friends to STAY OUTSIDE PLEASE!!!!

This is what the lizard looked like.....not the same one of course. Notice this one's fat little belly.....babies inside? We have lizards everywhere around our home. Just as long as they stay outside! :)

Well, I have been alittle busy the past couple of months. Some things have been good....some not so good. My last living grandparent passed away on April 19th, my Memaw Skeets. The arrangement below is made from flowers that I transplanted from her house to mine. This arrangement was at her visitation and funeral.

The rafting picture is totally out of order....sorry! Last Sunday I went white water rafting with one of my friends and her co-workers. This is not a actual picture of us, BUT this did happen.

Try not to be jealous!!! I did go see Tim McGraw and Lady Antebellum in concert.

Been digging, watering, fertilizing,and repeat the steps again.......

Been capturing critters in the house......a lizard

Brought critters into the house......stayed about a hour.....returned him into the wild!

Attended Rylee's 1st grade program at school.......

Celebrated Caleb's 12th birthday.....he wanted a Strawberry cake.

Celebrated Rylee's 8th birthday.....their birthdays are 8 days apart. May is an expensive month for the Barnetts.

My baby graduated from 5th grade.......which means he will be going to the Middle School next year....boo hoo (They could not wait to untuck their shirts!)

Well, I guess that wraps up the past couple of months in a nut shell. I will probably go into more detail on some of the above topics because I have some pictures to share. Oh yeah, I had my gallbladder removed the day after my grandmother was buried, and I took over a medical leave at my kiddos school for 2 wks. Of course, I am trying to find a full-time teaching position again this year. Cross your fingers!!!!

Thrifty Treasures~ Tablescape Treasures

Be sure to check out all the other great finds from all the other penny pinching bloggers. :) The other day, I stopped in at a local antique shop. Just browsing, I left with all of these goodies for 20 bucks and a quarter. Of course, I was thinking.....Tablescape Thursday!

12 of these little saucers for 9 bucks....what a deal!!!! Just perfect for spring! Don't ya think?

Grabbed these beauties immediately.....I was on the look-out for dinner napkins and such. Lovin' the buttery yellow color and detail. These were a steal at 3 bucks! So dainty and feminine.

These were another steal at 1 buck for six napkins. Notice the detail and cut work. This was better than yard sale prices......I thought!

Eight more napkins for 2 bucks.....notice the eyelet detail. All about the detail baby!

These items came from an half-price booth.....*happy dance* Candlesticks were 2 bucks and the little pedestal dish was 1 buck. Most of these items will be used in my next Tablescape Thursday. I was VERY pleased with my thrifty finds at an antique shop. Nothing is better than when you find a bargain. Be sure to check out all the other great bargains. Goats and more goats

My friend Charlotte and her family have some new spring baby goats. They are the CUTEST things! We finally got to see them last Friday. I took my boys, Noah and Sarabeth to see the little darlings! The kiddos chased the baby goats EVERYWHERE. The baby goats were screaming.....sounds just like a baby crying/screaming!!! After about 20 minutes of NONSTOP chasing, the goats were pooped. So, the kiddos could catch them easier! We left smelling like goats, but WHO CARES!!! They were soooo CUTE and PRECIOUS!!!!!

Of course, I had to strike a pose with one. I NOT going to leave with petting or holding a baby goat!

It was so funny to watch them nurse. They are kinda rough when they are trying to latch on. Poor Moma goat......

The Easter Bunny hopped right to our house Easter morning and filled the boys baskets with lots of goodies. Caleb got a new Under Armor duffle bag and lots of candy, and Rylee got some new PJs, the Alvin and the Chipmunks the Squeakuel, and lots of candy. Of course, BB and Grandmoma gave them some goodies too.

We colored our eggs on Saturday, so they would be ready for egg-hunting after Easter lunch. Granny cooked lunch for the entire family (about 40 or so of us). After lunch, the kiddos had a couple of egg hunts. Thanks Easter Bunny!

Buttercups

The other day, Sarabeth (my niece) and I picked a bouquet of buttercups. We picked and we picked.....two different varieties. Looks like the petals were curling up and dieing, but we had just picked these beauties. There is a lot of shadowing from the petals.

Notice the difference? The one of the right is like a double buttercup.

Double buttercup...at least that is the name I have given it. :)

Spring Cloche Party

I am joining Marty from A Stroll Thru Life for her Spring Cloche Party. Be sure to check out all the other talented bloggers that have been busy with their cloches, apothecary jars, or anything else they can put pretties inside.

This cloche was a gift from my newest SIL for helping with her wedding preparations. I know, how sweet and what a great gift!!!! Inside you will find, a little mini cup & saucer from Victorian Trading with dried flowers from special floral arrangements. On the saucer, you will find a charm from my childhood.

I have nicknamed this jar "fire hydrant". Don't you think it looks like one? Nestled inside is a little bunny (from Hobby Lobby) and bead fillers. I hope he has enough air! I like him sooo much....he may stay out for awhile. :)

You have seen this beauty before......same ol' pears....just added a few Quail eggs and bead fillers.

Under this little bell jar are Robin eggs and jelly beans.....very hard not to lift this jar for a little treat! Resting ontop of three pastel saucers from many years ago.

Last but not least.....my apothecary jar filled with Easter eggs.

I think it is difficult to photograph cloches and etc. Sorry some of these were a little dark. I tried to use natural light and my flash. Oh well.....about time for a new camera! Exploring we will go....

Yesterday, Caleb, Rylee, Pepper, and I decided we would explore the woods that surround our property. We have lived here for almost 10 years, but we have only ventured out into the woods a couple of times.....snakes, spiders, poison oak....oh my!!! Have always kept me at bay! Well, the boys are older, and boys will be boys of course. So, they pretended they were Huck Finn and Davy Crockett.....off we went into the world unknown. At least, unknown to us!

Our trusty companion, Pepper, is NEVER far behind.

On our journey, we found several natural springs. This was the first one. Dripping from a fallen log. We found about three other springs while exploring and other great finds of course.

What is this I hear.....a waterfall. But wait, I think I hear the sound of more water falling....could it be a larger waterfall??? A waterfall soooo close to our home.....

More water falling.......I still hear a larger sound......so relaxing. I could stay here forever if there were no spiders, snakes, or poison oak/ivy!

Have you noticed the moss growing? Wonder if I could harvest some of it.....let it dry....use it in floral arrangements and such???

Ahhh.....this is where the sound is coming from. Trickle....trickle......

Just imagine this beauty after a rainfall.......can you picture it now. Oh, I sure can! I can hear it and see it. You can beat your wet soggy shoes I'll be there after the rain.....mosquito bites and all.

Of course my imagination got a little carried away when we found this rusty ol' horseshoe. Could it be from long ago when people traveled by horseback? Could it be from ........I'll let your imagination it carried away.

Wonder where this little stream leads......maybe we will follow it someday.

Saw a lot of these curly q tree trunks/branches. Have NO clue what kind of tree it is. They were everywhere!!!!

We found a hideaway from long ago. Well, the boys think it is a cave. Actually, it is where someone has cleaned up the land above and pushed the brush/trees to the of the woods. Does kinda look like a cave.

Well, this is where we left the world of the unknown. Guess we were maybe a block from the house. I was a huffin' and a puffin'...so out of shape. Once you are at the bottom, you are surrounded by hills. We could not see our house. My MIL told me that I should take something with us in case there was a bad person down there. ......only her would think of that!!! It's like you are somewhere else....The boys had the time of their lives and of course they want to go back!

Tablescape Thursday~ Easter Tablescape Sneak Peak Revealed!

I am joining our gracious hostess, Susan from Between Naps on the Porch for Tablescape Thursday. This is a day that we all await anxiously for because it allows us to play with our dishes.

I am so lovin' this tablescape because it has so many "natural" elements.....the burlap, raffia, and dried hydrangeas. The dried hydrangeas are from our first summer together as a married couple in our new home. I picked and dried these from our bush in our yard. I have had these beauties for almost 14 years!

I am totally in love with these plates.....too bad they are paper! :( Yes, ladies and gents, you heard me correctly...they are NOT the "real" McCoy. Wish I could find some though...don't you? I purchased these from Hobby Lobby last year....1/2 price of course!

Inside my little dessert bowls (which came from W-Mart) are little, light as a feather bead fillers.

Egg covered kissing ball.....just hanging around decorating every little inch. :)

Well, night time has begun to fall. Time to light the candles and turn on the lamps.

Clear goblets are wedding gifts...do not know the pattern. Small juice glasses (plastic) are from Target...last year. I love their vintage look.

This was a winning gift from a Dirty Santa game a few years ago.....I did well, didn't I?

Gotta have some birdies somewhere on a spring/Easter Tablescape.

Notice the Gone with the Wind Lamp reflection in the plate......the lamp belonged to my MeMaw. I ALWAYS had my eye on this beauty!

Mr. and Mrs. Hare are just too cute. They look like they are ready to be unwrapped to discover a chocolate bunny inside. (They appear to be covered in colored foil). Purchased from Hobby Lobby 50% off of course. The plate is a recent find at Cracker Barrel.

This is Rylee's favorite tree in the yard. Not because is small enough for him to climb, but because it produces some yummy fruit he likes to eat. Keep scrolling down to find out.....

Bradford Pear Trees....oh so pretty when they are in bloom!

Flowering Cherry Tree (of some sort)....It will be amazingly beautiful when in full bloom!!!

Camelia Bushes flank each side of the front porch steps. They are beautiful when in full bloom. The only down side.....the wasp love them too.

Close-up of the bud. In a few days, the bushes will be covered with these.

Like I mentioned before, the Camelia Bush is beautiful in full-bloom. Spring is my favorite time fo the year. I love watching all the plants and animals start a new life. It is a time for a new beginning. I cannot wait until I can start digging into the dirt again.

This is a photo of my mother's Tulip Tree. It usually gets frozen out every year, but not this year. It is not in full bloom yet, but almost!!! These are beautiful trees. Did not get a close up of the bloom...sorry!

Pepper, AKA: Woolly Bully, Pepper Shaker, Moma's Boy....He is sitting so proudly for this photo. He LOVES his family sooo much. I believe he could live on love alone. He makes every step I make while I am outside. He is a "moma's boy". He is a full-blooded Australian Shepherd. He previous owners gave him to us. He is blind in one eye....the previous owner's horse kicked him in the eye...poor baby!

Oreo, AKA: Slick Stick, Ole Timer....He is thirteen years old. He is a very calm cat, but not a lap cat. :( Notice his one white eyebrow? When we still had our Dalmatian, Fiesty, he would try to nurse on the dog. Fiesty and Oreo were best buddies. They would sleep together in the dog house and eat together. I can tell that he is getting a little slower in his steps. Bless his heart!

Callie, AKA: Fuzz Buzz, Callie Allie....In this photo, she is saying Do NOT mess with ME!!!! She has a serious attitude. Grouchy is not the adjective for her. She loves to be petted mostly by me, but when she has had enough....that is it!!! Watch out!!! She is a stray that showed up the day after Thanksgiving five years ago. She will not let me comb her hair under her chin and belly. She has no fear what so ever.....Pepper is scared too death of her!!

All of my pets are giveaways or strays. If I could, I would take in every stray the wondered into our yard, but Mr. Hubby says "No more pets". I stand by Bob Barker's famous quote..... "Help control the pet population. Have your pets spayed or neutered".

I am joining Susan from Between Naps on the Porch for Metamorphosis Monday. My chandelier in the master bedroom is a pretty little thing, BUT it needed a little bLiNg BliNg. Last week, I was in our local Wal-Mart's craft department and noticed the fringe was 75% off. Yes, 75% off. They are doing away with the material/cut by yard department in this certain Wal-Mart. I purchased some fringe....not knowing really what I was going to do with it.....cannot resist a BARGAIN!!!! Got to thinking about my pretty little chandelier that dear Mr. Hubby gave me for my 30th b-day. Things that make you go huuuummmm......BLiNg....It....uP.....BaBy!!!!!!

A reason to drag out ALL of our favorite shoes or better yet, a reason to go buy some MORE shoes.Well, I did not buy any new shoes....had to buy Easter clothes,but I am sharing some of my favs. I LOVE SHOES!!!! Sarabeth is 6....Let's have a PaRtY

My niece, Sarabeth, turned six on March 13th. She celebrated with a cooking party with nine of her little friends. With the help of aunts, a grandmoma, a cousin, and a couple parents, we baked ice cream cone cupcakes, mini-cupcakes, regular cupcakes, rice crispy treats, peanut butter rice treats, decorated chocolate dipped marshmallows and pretzels, and covered Ritz crackers with can cheese. I think that is all. So how or another....we managed to keep the kitchen organized and in order.

While we were waiting on things to bake, the girls dressed up in vintage hats, jewelry and gloves. Did a photo shoot. Ate goodies....played.....had a sugar-rush!

Our serious look.....remember in old pictures people always looked sooo serious. That is what we are trying to do. Bethany is having a hard time. Look at Sarabeth....Notice we switched hats!

Striking a pose....switched hats again. Had a blast acting silly. Who knows what Bethany is doing??

Foodie Friday~ Easy Broiled Tilapia

Welcome to Foodie Friday hosted by Gollum.....where we like to show off what we have been stirring up in the kitchen. Hope you will think my Broiled Tilapia is tasty...hook, line and sinker!

You will need some of these....fresh or frozen

Then, coat Tilapia with butter and then shake, shake, and shake the seasoning on

Broiled for 6 mins on each side after coating with butter and shakin on the seasoning

Drag out the pan that came with your stove....you know the one...the one you NEVER use!!! Well, now you have a reason to dust it off (preferably wash it) and get to cookin.

I served ours with homemade....yes, homemade french fries and slaw. Yum...Yum....The ENTIRE family loves this dish....the boys gobble it up!!!

Broiled Tilapia

fresh or frozen Tilapia

butter or spray butter

seasoning of your choice

Preheat oven to Broil Hi. Coat Tilapia with butter and seasoning on one side. Broil for 6 minutes. Turn over and repeat. Super easy!! Enjoy!

Homemade Slaw
cabbage

salt and pepper

diced onion

mayo

dash garlic salt

Mix together.

Just a tasseling....

Well, I thought I would join the world of tasseling. I already had the topper from a previous project...(already painted black), so I started from there. Hot glue gun...check....ribbons...check....left-over fringe...found it....check.....OK ready to tassel

Put the finishing touch by painting a "B"....now it is hanging proudly in our bedroom.

Well, since I made one....gotta make another one, right? My niece's birthday would be the perfect time to make another tassel. Same style...just different ribbons.

Well, I did spice it up alittle with the polka dots....pretty cute for a six year old.
