Thrifty Thursday~ All this for $1.23...no joke

Last week, I went into our local Salvation Army Store. I have not been in this store in a long time. I noticed the Star of David bud vase immediately for 49 cents. On the next shelf , I found the piece that goes with an oil and vinegar set of the same pattern for 49 cents too.
Walked around a little more.....found this little cutie pie....isn't it the cutest thing ever!!!! It is about 4 inches tall....do not know where I will find candles tiny enough to fit...but that can be another day of shopping and searching. I think I am going to spray paint it a flat black to match some other black iron looking candle holders that I have.

Sorry that you are having to turn your head to the side...but it is worth it to see this little cutie pie....I LOVE tiny cute stuff...don't you?

The making of the next pair of famous blogland birds

Yesterday, I stopped in at our local Pier 1. They had these cute little birdies for only $3.00 for the set. Yep, that is correct....3.00 bucks for the pair!!!! The cashier told me that they are getting in a lot of bird stuff this fall....they better watch out for us "blogland" customers....we like our little birdies and our little bunnies!!! They had some darling bird salad plates for 5.00 bucks each. In three different colors: golden yellow, deep lime green, and dark blue. I did not purchase any because I could not decide on which color plus I did not need to spend the money either. It is soooo hard to say no!!!!! Do you think these birdies will be as famous as the Target birdies????

Tomatoes.....and more tomatoes....

Well, I guess you know what I will be doing today. Yep, you guessed correctly...canning tomatoes! I have a lot of them, BUT they are small. I might get 7 quarts out of all of the these. I do not eat these things, but I like to cook with them. Good thing that I do not have a job right now since my garden has decided to start coming in.....canned some pickled okra last night.

Taulbe's B-day 09

We celebrated Taulbe's birthday on August 9th....his actually b-day is August 12th. I grilled hamburgers and hotdogs with all the fixins': baked beans, potato salad, salad, and boiled okra. His immediate family joined us for supper. The night of the 12th, I cooked again. I grilled boneless porkchops and shrimp with boiled okra, steamed squash with onions, bell peppers, and jalapeno peppers, baked potatoes, salad, and baked a carrot cake. His parents and younger brother ate supper with us. Happy 37th Birthday to my dear husband...thank you for everything that you do for our family!!!

The King.....Elvis

Tomorrow marks the 32nd anniversary of The King of Rock-n-Roll death!!!! On August 16,1977,fans from across the world mourn the death of a musical icon, every girl's dream idol, and a very generous man. Elvis Aaron Presley will always be a part of our musical history whether it is from the past, present, or future. May he rest in peace.....

I am going to try to post some photos from my previous trips to Graceland....the home of the Elvis. I am a huge Elvis fan....I am the third generation.....maybe just maybe my boys will grow to love or at least like his music one day...wishful thinking!!!!

First day of school

Self-timer picture....not enough time to set up tripod. Family photo moment!
Moma and Caleb....Big Fifth grader now....boy how time flies.....

Moma and Rylee....Big First grader....still a moma's boy :)

Rylee is VERY proud of his superhero lunchbox and backpack....he LOVES his superheroes!!

Strike a pose...Caleb. This is our traditional first day of school spot for taking pictures. :)

Strike a pose....Rylee!
This was a bittersweet day for me. I KNOW they hate starting back to school, but they constantly fight while at home. Therefore, it is nice to have some peace and quiet for a while. My boys are growing up so quickly right before my very eyes. Still no teaching job for me.....still looking though.

All I want for Christmas is....

My two front teeth!!!
Monday night Rylee finally lost his other front tooth. Daddy gets the honor of being the "official" tooth puller in the family...thank goodness! Nothing is sweeter than an toothless kiddo except when he is trying to talk of course! :) The toothfairy left Rylee a prize under his pillow, and he was wanting to put his tooth under his pillow again Tuesday to see if she would leave him another dollar. Only Rylee would think of that....

Feathered Friends Party

Well, I will begin this post with the famous blogland Target birdies....Target should thank all of us for raising their sales this past spring/summer. Your are welcome, Target! If you notice, the Blue Willow Teapot has some birdies on it too. This was from my very first Tablescape Thursday back in June of this year. I loved my TT soooo much that my dining room table it is STILL decorated with this same theme. I have been using different tables and trays for my TT.
Another Blue Willow piece...this was purchased many years ago at TJMaxx. I have a hutch in the back foyer where I display my blue and white pieces.

I purchased the lovely teapot this past July at my very first visit to a Homegoods Store. Don't you just love it....I know your heads are going Up aNd DoWn. It was only $6.99. Love it!!! It has some fellow bird buddies sitting below. Sometimes, I have to put in earplugs because they get a little loud with their chirping, but I love it. :)

Closer view of the bird buddies....the bronze one was purchased at Hobby Lobby half price of course and the blue bird at a local Christian Book Store.

Aaawwww.....Rylee when he was about 2 years old feeding the seagulls at Panama City Beach. Don't ya just love how he is standing with his hands behind his back???!!!! This is hanging in the hall upstairs.

This was purchased several years ago at Castor Knotts Department Store. A birthday gift from my Granddaddy Smith. The little boy is feeding pigeons....reminds me of Rylee in FL.

Close-up of the the birdies in my kitchen table arrangement that I made this past summer. Bought the birdies at the Dollar Store for a buck each.

Full view of the arrangement in my dough bowl. I change it out with the different seasons.

Pewter bird dish with dried flowers and a rose candle that sits on the end table in the living room.

This in not a good picture at all.....I did not use a flash because it was too bright. This is a light pewter/silver bird cage with two doves. It is a music box. My husband's granny and papa gave this to me one Christmas. It is very pretty...sorry that you cannot see it beauty.

Well, we are an Auburn Fan Family.....just had to include this in my posting. :)

This is the toile wallpaper in the back foyer. I LOVE TOILE!!! Don't you??? Notice the birdies?
I did not realize how many birdies I had until I started the bird hunt throughout the house. Be sure to check out all the other posting on Shabby Chic Cottage. Thank you for flying in and checking out my nest.

Tablescape Thursday~ The Bridal Shower

This end of the table was the main centerpiece which I had posted on last week's TT as a practice session. I used homegrown zinnias from my husband's granny's flower garden, my ivy and lantana blooms. I used my Dollar Tree votives.....just right for this occasion. The cake was on the other end of the table, but we also had mixed nuts, cheese balls with crackers, and mints. I bought the nuts and mints too. The nuts are in another bowl that I received as a wedding gift and the mint bowl was my Memaw Smith's....golden oldie. Did not get a picture of the punch table because the veggies had not arrived when I was taking these pictures and we were rushed for time after the veggies arrived. On the punch table, we had pinwheels, veggies, and of course some yummy homemade punch. I love the punch that our granny makes...yummy!!!!
On this table, we had a chocolate fountain (yummy yummy...wish it was large enough for me to get in and sit there with my mouth opened WIDE),goodies to dip in the chocolate (marshmallows, strawberries, grapes, and pretzels sticks), spinach dip with wheat thins, cup up fruit, and a shrimp dip with a variety of crackers. We scattered rose petals over the table. I made the spinach dip and it is in a bowl that I received as a wedding gift 13 years ago. It is lead crystal therefore it is usually a "cabinet queen" meaning it is hardly ever used!

The bridal shower was in an antebellum home that our cousin leases out for special occasions. These are two of the four mantles downstairs that we decorated. For some reason, I did not take a picture of the other two mantles. Each mantle was decorated with candelabras/candlesticks, ivy, flowers, and pictures of the happy couple.

The future Mrs. Seth Ashley Barnett ......oh here is a picture of the cake. We elevated the cake ( I like things at different levels), and we placed tulle and a few zinnias around the base.

The Hostesses: Me, Bethany(my sis-in-law), Amy (Rachael's sis.),Rachael (honoree),Kathryn(cousin of the groom),Lucy(aunt of the groom),Tina(cousin of the groom),Laurie(cousin of the groom),Diane(aunt of the groom) not pictured Amanda(cousin of the groom)

Me and my future sister-in-law Rachael....We have become a lot closer since the planning of her showers and their wedding. I have become her "go-to" person when she has a question about anything and everything. I have been with her when she registered for her gifts, met with her florist, and I am meeting with a cake lady to discuss the Groom's table this week. I have assisted her with the invitations. I have enjoyed being so involved in the planning stage of their special day. I know I will be a busy little bee the day of the wedding too. My little one, Rylee, is the ring bearer...aaahhhh!!!! I have always wanted one of my boys to be in a wedding, and it is finally going to happen on September 19th, 2009. Wish all of us lots of luck. I will have to drag out the waterproof mascara and the tissues...booohooo!!!!

Thanks for viewing my Tablescape for this week...hope you enjoyed it. We had a very good shower for our bride-to-be. She received lots of gifts and has a bright future ahead of her as the future Mrs. Seth Barnett. Looking forward to spending more time with my new sister. I am an only child, so I claim them as the real thing...no in-law stuff for me. Be sure to check out all the other great TT. See ya next week!
